What happens during a session?
Each session starts with a full history about your dog, followed by a gait analysis and warm-up outside, which provides me with an opportunity to analyse how your dog moves and identify any asymmetries or other issues. This is followed by an orthopaedic examination inside where I carry out a number of checks to assess range of movement and general health.
I’ll then carry out a massage session based on the needs of your dog, its history and my observations using a variety of techniques:
-
palpation to feel for stress points and identify muscular tension and joint dysfunction
-
Swedish relaxation massage to calm and relax your dog
-
TMJ massage where neck/upper jaw issues are identified
-
Myofascial release (MFR)
-
Shiatsu/meridian line work (optional)
-
stretching, range of motion and conditioning exercises
At the end of the session, I’ll recommend techniques and exercises you can use to maximise the benefits of the session and help your dog. You’ll receive a report following the session with my recommendations.
What else do I need to know?
For in-home sessions, a quiet area to work on your dog away from distractions, children and other animals – you’re absolutely welcome to observe the session. Note, massage therapy is not appropriate for dogs diagnosed with cancer. You can combine a massage therapy session with a dog grooming service at a discounted rate.
Duration: allow 60 – 75 minutes. Please let me know in advance if your dog suffers from anxiety or displays aggression as I may need to allow additional time for the session.
Price*: initial session $105.00 | follow-up session(s) $95.00
