SWISS BLACKNOSE VALAIS

Later this year we hope to welcome Swiss Blacknose Valais lambs under our new flock name "Kiridell" (registration in progress).  These sheep are very docile and perfect for lifestyle blocks.

Having fallen in love with the breed, my goal is to breed up 100% Swiss Blacknose Valais, starting with first generation (F1) lambs.   Pictured is Dougie, my F3 wether.

My foundation ewes are a Romney and a Romney/Swiss Blacknose Valais mix.  The ram is a registered 100% Swiss Blacknose Valais.

Details and lineage of lambs available for sale will be added to this page.

Below information from the New Zealand Sheep Breeders Association:

  • F1 (First Generation): A purebred Valais ram is mated with a foundation ewe, producing a 50% Valais offspring.

  • F2 (Second Generation): An F1 ewe is mated back to a purebred Valais ram, resulting in a 75% Valais sheep.

  • Subsequent Generations: F2 (75%)

    → F3 (87.5%)

    → F4 (93.75%)

    → F5 (96.88% or higher).

  • Purebred Status: Generally, after 4 or 5 generations of using purebred rams, the resulting ewes are considered "purebred" (often labeled F4 or F5). In New Zealand, full registration for rams is typically achieved at F5 or F6."
